Personal Thoughts:
This is a genuinely special pre-CBS Jazzmaster with exactly the sort of honest road-worn character collectors look for. Originally finished in three-tone sunburst, much of the red pigment has naturally faded over time, leaving the highly desirable “two-tone” appearance commonly associated with examples from around 1959 to early 1961. Paired with the dark slab-board rosewood fingerboard and tortoiseshell pickguard, it has the unmistakable look of an early Jazzmaster that has been played rather than preserved.

Crucially, this remains an original and unmodified instrument with no repairs noted. The original pickups, bridge, tremolo, electronics, hardware and frets are retained, preserving both its historic integrity and the distinctive response of an early Jazzmaster. These guitars have a broad, clear and highly expressive voice, with more body than a traditional Fender single coil while retaining plenty of attack and definition. The rhythm circuit adds another darker, smoother texture, making the design far more versatile than its offset styling might suggest.

This is not a pristine collector’s piece, and that is a major part of its appeal. It has lived, been played extensively and developed the sort of natural wear that modern relic work attempts to recreate. An evocative original 1960 Fender with genuine history, strong provenance and no artificial aging.

Condition Report:
Very good vintage condition with extensive genuine playwear. The original sunburst finish has faded considerably, particularly through the red section, creating an aged two-tone appearance. There are numerous chips, scratches, dents and worn areas throughout, including substantial finish loss across the rear of the body. The back of the neck has worn naturally and feels smooth from years of use.

The rosewood fingerboard shows signs of heavy playing, including visible divots around the lower frets. The original frets remain fitted and retain some usable life. The original tortoiseshell pickguard has experienced some age-related shrinkage and slight warping, but remains comparatively well preserved around the pickups and bridge. No modifications or repairs are noted. Supplied with a hardshell case and previous dealer documentation from ATB Guitars.
