1963 Ampeg Jet J-12-A Vintage 1x12 Tube Amp Blue Checker, Fully Serviced

Up for sale, a 1963 Ampeg Jet J-12-A vintage tube amp in perfect working order. Not to be confused with the numerous "Jet" reissues offered by Ampeg over the decades, this is a genuine original J-12-A, freshly serviced by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. The tone is thick, complex, and clean, with a surprising amount of headroom and punch. Of course maxing out the volume can yield everything from a throaty overdriven roar to fizzy sizzle, and the character of the overdrive can be easily sculpted with the tone control. Top things off with a thick, throbbing tremolo and you have a very impressive amp.

The chassis has clean chrome plating with original transformers. The stock CTS pots have visible date codes from the 37th week of ‘63 and the preamp has been fully recapped to ensure optimal performance. The multi-section can capacitor is original and still functions as intended. The tubes consist of a matched pair of 7591 power tubes, two octal RCA 6SL7 preamp tubes, and a Sovtek 5Y3 rectifier. The speaker is a vintage alnico replacement with a clean black frame and proper wattage handling and voicing characteristics to bring out the best in the Jet.

Cosmetically, this amp retains the original blue checker tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with a modern leather handle. The cabinet shows some wear on the back panel and corners. On the chrome faceplate, the majority of the original white silkscreen lettering is also intact.
