IWASHITA MANDOLINS & GUITARS is run by luthier Hiroshi Iwashita from Yamanashi Prefecture. This particular instrument is a used F-5 from 2024. It features a carved Adirondack spruce top, sugar maple sides and back, a one-piece sugar maple neck, ebony fingerboard, ebony adjustable bridge, ivoroid binding, tortoiseshell pickguard, and original tailpiece. The headstock has the "iwashita" logo and a traditionally designed flowerpot inlay. The fingerboard has a radius, medium-sized frets, and a scooped end, incorporating many elements of a modern mandolin for superior playability. The top, back, and neck woods have been smoked, resulting in improved responsiveness and clarity. The finish is a time-consuming shellac finish. It is a delicate and refined finish, but it brings out a rich, woody tone. The neck is in excellent condition, and there is no fret wear. Overall, there are no noticeable scratches, only a few minor, inconspicuous scratches, making it in very clean condition with minimal signs of use. The plain strings have a clear, resonant tone that extends well into the high positions without sounding thin, while the wound strings have a thick, full sound with a sharp edge, producing a powerful, crisp chop sound that is essential for bluegrass. This is a superb used instrument, handcrafted in Japan with an upgraded shellac finish and smoke treatment, highly recommended. Bobblen Hard Case included
