The 1967 Fender Coronado XII represents one of the most unique chapters in Fender’s history. Introduced during the mid-1960s and designed by legendary luthier Roger Rossmeisl, the Coronado series marked Fender’s first successful venture into fully hollow electric guitars. Rossmeisl, whose previous work with Rickenbacker helped define the look of many classic semi-hollow instruments, brought a completely new design philosophy to Fender.
The Coronado XII is particularly desirable, combining the airy resonance of a fully hollow body with the unmistakable shimmer and harmonic richness that only a vintage electric 12-string can produce. Its lush, chiming tone made it a favorite for folk-rock, psychedelic music, classic rock, country, and studio recording.
Finished in its original Cherry Red, this example has been exceptionally well cared for over the years and remains 100% original, making it an increasingly difficult instrument to find in today’s vintage market. Early Coronado XII models have become highly sought after by collectors who appreciate their historical significance, distinctive styling, and unique voice within the Fender lineup.

A Rare Vintage Fender
While models like the Stratocaster and Telecaster often steal the spotlight, the Coronado XII has quietly become one of Fender’s most collectible vintage hollowbody instruments. Its elegant design, unmistakable 12-string voice, and relatively limited production make it a standout piece for both collectors and musicians. Finding an all-original 1967 example in this condition is becoming increasingly uncommon.
