“I did specifically select this piece of walnut for the resonant properties it exhibited. I knew the “imperfections” like the worm holes and the spalted areas on the bouts would be present in the final product but chose to proceed anyway hoping it would ultimately produce a unique, warm and powerful sound.

I think allowing the worm holes to remain unfilled accentuates the aniqued look (many Guarneri and Strads have worm holes that set them apart) and serves to set apart this already unique (black walnut) fiddle.

There are even several examples of violin makers intentionally drilling faux worm holes in an attempt to give them more antiqued characteristics.“
