Now available on consignment, a 1980 Mesa Boogie Mk.IIB.
This is a fairly well used, but well kept, export example of Mesa Boogie’s famous “Mark” series, featuring a well loaded control panel, effects loop, pedal for channel switching, and lots of push pull knobs. The Mark IIB model also features a switch that allows you to take its output down to a slightly more bedroom-friendly 60 watts.
The chassis of this amp, dated 6/26/1980, holds 4 EHX 6L6EH power tubes, and 5 12AX7’s in the pre-amp stage. Also featured are two 4 ohm extension outputs, presence & reverb controls, all driving a powerful 12 inch speaker. During a recent service, a few cabs and tubes were changed, everything else remains stock.
Cosmetically, this amp has clearly seen regular use for some time, but by someone with a fair amount of care & responsibility. There are a few chunks and tears in the Tolex, but nothing dramatic, and on the whole it’s quite clean. The grille cloth also only presents a few minor tears and is in similarly good condition.
Overall this amp is a well preserved little high-gain icon, reliable, loud, and with plenty of life left.
