Intro:

Beautiful and really cool Klira SM8 (SM= “Soundmaster”) model “Kentucky”. This series of offset guitars was made in the early to mid 1970s by Klira. Klira was a major guitar manufacturer in West Germany from the 1950s to early 1980s; not as big and as well known as Höfner and Framus, but coming in at a solid 3rd place when it comes to size and influence.

Measurements, weight and other specs:

-Scale:  618 mm – Jaguar scale!

-Nut: ca 4,15 cm

-Weight: 2,95 kg

-Pickups: two typical Klira singlecoils both measuring at about 7,2k. Controlled with master volume and tone, and a 3 way toggle switch.

-Body: solid light weight wood, likely basswood or poplar.

-Neck:  slim c, probably maple, with a rosewood fingerboard. Small and low vintage frets; the radius is likely 7,25’’ like on a vintage Fender.

Condition:

-Body: good condition with nicely aged lacquer. There are a couple of dings and dongs, and someone drilled a strappin-hole into the lower horn, which has been filled.

-Neck: straight and good condition, frets have minor crevasses, no buzz or deadpots. Scratches on the back, no breaks or fissures.

-Head: good condition; original Klira logo is missing.

-Hardware: signs of aging, but in fairly good condition. The trem arm swings freely, it cannot be made tighter in its socket.

-Electrics: works; volume pot replaced with a brand new one as the old one was crapping out.

-Originality: all original except for volume pot and the tip of the trem arm.

Sound and Playability:

-Playability and string action: the guitar plays very well with a low string action, which can be adjusted well at the bridge; it delivers a vintage playing feeling. No side dots!

-Sound: Please check out the video for a sound demo. The guitar has a unique chimey and warm vintage singlecoil sound, not unlike a JM.

As always, the instrument has been serviced completely and is ready to be played immediately.

-Completely cleaned

-Frets polished, fretboard cleaned and oiled

-Electronics cleaned and serviced

-Pro setup of string action, pickup height and intonation

-New 10 gauge all nickel Pyramid strings put on – play it in!

Auxiliary stuff:

-No case or gigbag included. The item will be wrapped well, and put into a sturdy cardboard box with lots of filler material. If you need a case, a 4/4 classical guitar case will fit well. I can buy one at your cost for the shipping, just let me know.

AFTER DELIVERY: After receiving the item, please inspect the package for obvious damages and make photos if there are any. After unpacking, check the item immediately for damages or other undocumented flaws. I accept a 14 days return and will pay for shipping if the item is in a different condition than described upon arrival. Please note that I will only take the item back entirely, but not grant any reduction of price and generally only accept returns if the item was unaltered after arrival.

CITES protection: all of the items I sell have been legally imported to the EU before January 1st 2017 and are registered with the authorities in Hamburg, Germany (if applicable).
