Gibson Custom Acoustic 1936 J-35 Made in USA
Gibson Custom Shop 1936 J-35 Vintage Sunburst, Made in USA
About the Model
The J-35 was born in 1936, evolving from Gibson’s original Jumbo during the depths of the Great Depression. It was designed as a more affordable round-shoulder dreadnought that still delivered a warm, balanced and powerful voice, and it became the direct ancestor of the legendary J-45.
This Gibson Custom Shop Historic reissue recreates the pre-war original in remarkable detail: a thermally aged Adirondack red spruce top, hot hide glue construction, a chunky V-profile mahogany neck with a wide 1.77" nut, an open-slot bridge and period-correct cream button tuners. Compared to the standard J-35 ’30s Faded (Sitka spruce top, round neck, closed-slot bridge, onboard pickup), the Custom Shop 1936 J-35 is a purely acoustic, historically accurate instrument built for players and collectors who want the authentic pre-war Gibson tone.
Condition
This guitar has dents visible on the body top, back and headstock (some chips as well). Please see the photos and video for details. These do not affect its structural integrity or playability in the slightest.
Functionally, the guitar is in superb condition. The neck is smooth and stable, the frets show minimal wear, and the action is comfortable across the board. Most importantly, it delivers a truly powerful and resonant sound. Whether you’re strumming or fingerpicking, it responds with rich lows, clear highs and the woody, punchy midrange that pre-war style Gibsons are known for.
