Conn Transitional Baritone Saxophone
I listed condition as good because compared to a new horn you would think of this as in good condition.
When I bought it, it had been completely repadded and overhauled by Saxquest and they did a really good job.
From a playing point of view, the only thing this horn could use is a neck screw. There is evidence of repairs done in the past if you look close at the bottom fin it has been replaced with a bottom that is smooth. The case has one zipper instead of two. The case works great besides that small detail.
The horn has been relaquered but for those who understand lead and brass poisoning the relaquer is actually an improvement Prolonging the life of the horn.
This is an early conn transitional so it is before they started putting the naked lady face on it and it has all of the Gerry Mulligan era baritone sax characteristics- the nail file g# key etc.
I asked my close friend, one of the top five bari saxophonist and a professor of composition at Berkelee, what horn has the biggest sound and best tone of all makes, basically if you sold all of your horns and picked a horn just on sound what would you pick and he said the conn transitional like the one I have.
If you don’t wear at least a mens large or bigger glove you may have a harder time playing a conn transitional. It is easier on your neck than a low a bari and you can hear yourself really well because of the lack of the low a.
If you want a low A, put your knee in the bell and play a low Bb. If you want a high front f, play first two fingers in your left hand and the nearest palm key and you can play your high front f. Above that see an altissimo chart.
Also, at the same time you order this bari you will need a short shank mouthpiece. Gottsu, Otto link Or other short shank makes will be necessary to play in tune.
I have written This listing as described, but I do allow returns if you let me know right away for things like shipping damage and if you are not satisfied w the first seven day. Please contact me right away if you have concerns.
Call me if you have questions, I have a short shank mouthpiece I can sell you but it is really expensive. Ak area # + 7267370
