One of the best playing electrics I’ve ever had, which I cut my teeth on in the 70s, lost to a thief, and bought again about 20 years ago. This 1968 Epiphone Olympic Double SB722D – S#507021 – has a very well preserved deep cherry finish with two nicks to the finish and some occasional slight scuffs I couldn’t get to photograph. The batwing headstock is exceptionally clean and the Brazilian rosewood fretboard has no pitting or cracks. The set neck is a natural fit C profile, smooth, quick, straight with excellent action, and hey, where can you find a guitar with all 22 frets clear of the body? The mahogany neck is set in a solid mahogany body, which features two Melody Maker PUPs and a Maestro vibrato bridge.

A masterpiece of Gibson quality construction, born in the USA. This model is of historical significance as it was among the final products of the Kalamazoo factory before fabrication moved to Japan. It came to me from the original owner who purchased it new in Michigan. All equipment is original – PUPs, Kluson Deluxe closed tuners, pickguard, Maestro bar and nickel hardware –except the knobs. When one T-knob was lost the previous owner replaced them with witches hats. The three original T- and V-knobs are included. They sold for about US$100 each until the replica guitar came out some years back, so you could find a period correct replacement knob if you’d like to take the looks back to the original.

I found a US-made hardshell case that fits nice and snugly and is TSA compliant if traveling by air. The SKB case and keys are included in the sale. Also included are a new set of GHS 10-52 strings.

Contact me for questions or discussion. This is a friendly, super playable, light weight instrument in excellent condition.
