Up for grabs is a used (with a little less than light average wear) genuine DiMarzio BHWP3 BRIDGE pickup[which is an OEM-supplied DiMarzio "Drop Sonic" (D-Sonic)]. I know what most of these letters / number mean: BHWP3 = Ball Humbucker Wide (aka: F-spaced)) Petrucci 3

NOTE: This specific pickup can only be purchased in an early to mid 2000s Ernie Ball MusicMan JP6 (NO guitar included). You cannot purchase this as an individual pickup from DiMarzio.

But - according to DiMarzio, it's identical to the retail version.

It is from the early to mid 2000s.

Double black. 4 conductor. Ceramic magnet

11.45k (which is slighly lower than full strength)

Comes with + the screws (sorry not pictured). This pickup is from an early model Ernie Ball MusicMan JP6 (guitar NOT included).

NOTE: the wire(s) need(s) to be lengthened.

If you are looking at this listing then you know what it is. Kind of rare and kind of desireable BRIDGE pickup (especially for Petrucci fans / admirers / Petrucci gear collectors) that was on the early model Ernie Ball MusicMan John Petrucci JP6 electric guitars. For 6 string electric guitar. NO guitar included / aside from the screws - NO other items included.

In a separate REVERB listing- I have the matching NECK pickup -- DiMarzio BHNP1 NECK pickup (which is a custom wound (modified) pickup based off of a modified Air Norton Light pickup)" . Here's the link for it:

Sorry NO packaging and NO paperwork, You can go to the DiMarzio website for wiring diagrams.

This pickup was tested and it functions properly. 11.45k (slighyl lower than full strength)

SPECIFICATIONS -- 4 Conductor, Magnet: Ceramic. Resistance: 11.96 Kohm

The BRIDGE pickup has a very short lead (main wire + the individual wires) length is about 3 inches. Therefore - you or a guitar tech - wlil have to lengthen the wires. Extra wire is NOT included.

I did some research (please correct me if any of this information is wrong). The info below is from the Ernie Ball Forum website about the topic of JP6 pickups (SEE link below). And the information is provided as a reference. NO other pickup(s) is/are included in this listing. NO guitar(s) is / are included in this listing):

  • forums.ernieball.com/threads/jp-pickups-timeline.41722/
  • "he had custom wound pickups in his Musicman model they were supposed to be based heavily on the Air Norton and Steve's Special, early mid 2000s The first combination on the original JP's was the modified Steve's Special in the bridge with an "Air Norton Light" in the neck position. Around 2006, the SS was replaced by the D-sonic, neck pup was the same. Both pups also went into the BFR's as original equipment. June 2009 brought the Liquifyer/Crunch Lab combo on the standard and BFR JP's".

I put its conditon as VERY GOOD. But some people might feel that it is in between VG and Good shape.

TOP SIDE:

  • Main areas of both bobbins are geneally clean (for a used pickup several years old). There is some very sligth surface scuffs (nothign serious), a little surface cloudiness, a few very light tiny surface nicks, and one or two very short light dash-line scratches.
  • The top edge of the six metal piece on the upper bobbin have some tiny & very small nicks and some very tiny rust spots.
  • The silver metal blade on the lower bobbin has some light- but visible short / very short scratches, a couple of small / very small cloudy spots , and a few tiny nicks.

UNDER SIDE of this pickup: It has a lot of wax residue. This was residue has impressiosn and nicks

LABEL on BOTTOM SIDE: SEE picture # 3 for the information on the label. The label is mostly fine. It has some discoloration (off white colored stains). The top edge has a little bit of unevenness.

METAL left and right TABS: The black finish has a few nicks.

WIRE(S): The out black insulation has a few small / very small impressions and some uneveness (nothing too serious). This BRIDGE pickup has a very short lead (main wire + the individual wires) length is about 3 inches. Therefore - you or a guitar tech - wil have to lengthen the wires. Extra wire is NOT included.

  • Full length of Lead (wire): main black wire to the bare ends of the individual wires is about 3 inches
  • Length of main wire to the ends of the colored part of the individual wires is about 2 and 5/8 inches
  • Length of the main black part of wire is about 1 and 3/4 inches

The mounting screws are fine (very clean) -- sorry not pictured.  They are silver color. The screws heads are Phillips and and use a Phillips screw driver.  Please let me know if you prefer black screws.

====

Solder Connect. 4 conductor. Ceramic magnet.

Works fine / slightly lower than full strength.

DiMarzio's specifications state that the average DCR  (the output) for this pickup (new) is:  11.96k

11.45k is the multi-meter reading that I got on November 9, 2023. Room temp was about 68 °F. Remember that room temperature affects the multi-meter reading - so this reading fluctuates a little bit.

Do the following to get the multimeter reading:

  • red is by itself - this is the HOT wire. Touch red wire of pickup to red lead of multi-meter
  • tie (twist) green and bare wires of the pickup together - these are the GROUND Wires. Then touch green + bare wires of pickup to black lead of multi-meter
  • tie (twist) black and white wires
  • select 20k ohms (or 200k ohms to get a less detailed reading) on the multimeter
  • As I stated above - I'll leave the wires twited together (if necessary - you can untwist them)
