An original Roland VG-8 Expanded guitar modeling processor, running System Version 2.04.

The VG-8 is one of Roland’s pioneering guitar modeling processors, offering a distinctive range of virtual guitar sounds, alternate tunings, and creative sound-shaping possibilities when used with a compatible Roland GK pickup system.

This unit powers on normally, and its main functions have been tested and are currently working.

It includes the Expanded patch set, from A11 through D84.

Please note that this unit has two known age-related issues:

• A persistent “INT. Battery Low” warning, despite installation of a new backup battery
• Weak or missing lines on the LCD display

Both issues are explained in detail below.

This unit is best suited for a musician, collector, technician, or vintage Roland enthusiast who is comfortable with older electronic equipment and understands the disclosed conditions.

Tested Functions

The following functions and conditions have been checked:

• Power-on confirmed
• Front-panel buttons operate normally
• Pedal operation confirmed
• Main functions operate normally during testing
• Unit initialized and tested
• Internal memory currently retains saved settings
• System Version 2.04 confirmed
• Expanded patch set A11–D84 present
• Exterior cleaned
• Jacks cleaned with contact cleaner

At the time of listing, the unit operates as described above.

Important – Internal Battery Warning

The unit continues to display an “INT. Battery Low” warning.

The internal backup battery has already been replaced with a new battery. However, the warning remains active.

Additionally, the battery test in the service/diagnostic mode reports an NG result.

Despite this warning, the internal memory is currently retaining saved settings.

To check memory retention, system settings were saved, the unit was powered off and disconnected from the power supply for several hours, and the saved settings were still present after restarting.

This confirms memory retention during the test, but it does not establish that the underlying battery warning has been resolved.

Because the warning persists and the diagnostic test reports NG, long-term memory retention cannot be guaranteed.

Further inspection, adjustment, or repair may be required.

LCD Display Condition

The LCD has some weak or missing display lines due to age-related deterioration.

The display remains readable and usable, but it is not in perfect condition.

The number or visibility of affected lines may change over time as the display continues to age.

Please carefully review the photographs to assess its current condition.

Cosmetic Condition

The exterior shows signs of normal use and aging consistent with vintage electronic equipment.

One of the rubber feet on the underside is missing.

Tape has been applied to compensate for the missing foot and help the unit sit more evenly on a flat surface.

There may also be scratches, surface marks, and other cosmetic wear.

About the Roland VG-8 Expanded

The Roland VG-8 is a landmark processor in the history of guitar modeling technology.

Rather than functioning as a conventional guitar effects pedal, it uses signals from a compatible Roland GK divided pickup to create virtual guitar and amplifier sounds, alternate tunings, and unique synthesized-style textures.

The Expanded version adds an extended collection of sounds and creative possibilities, making it particularly interesting for experimental guitarists, sound designers, and collectors of classic Roland/BOSS technology.

This unit runs System Version 2.04 and includes the Expanded patch set from A11 to D84.

A compatible GK pickup system and connection cable are required for normal guitar operation.
