The Les Paul Custom model was introduced in its current configuration with two humbucker pickups back in 1957. The guitar from that time, still in production today (Gibson Custom 1957 Les Paul Custom) - also known as the "Black Beauty" - differs in some technical details from this version, which is more affordable and features a more modern setup.

The Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom Ebony Fingerboard Gloss is characterized by a mahogany body paired with a maple top, unlike the Black Beauty model which has a mahogany top: in terms of sound, the presence of maple imparts greater brightness, translating into defined and open distorted tones.

Another difference can be found in the neck profile, which is smaller and more comfortable, while still maintaining dimensions that ensure, along with the "long tenon" joint, excellent sound transmission and infinite sustain.

Finally, it should be noted that Gibson has returned to using an ebony fingerboard for this model, a wood that is becoming increasingly difficult to source on a large scale, but which is essential for such an emblematic instrument.
