Crate FXT120 2x12 Combo with 1974 & 1979 CTS Alnico Speakers

Modified Crate FXT120 2x12 solid-state guitar combo with both cosmetic and speaker upgrades. I reworked this amp to get away from the very dated stock FXT120 appearance and give it a cleaner, more understated look.

Cosmetic Upgrades

• Original grille cloth removed and the cabinet reclothed in black
• Large original Crate grille badge removed for a much cleaner front appearance
• Grille was completely redone as part of the conversion
• Overall appearance is substantially cleaner and less visually busy than a stock FXT120

Vintage CTS Alnico Speaker Conversion

The original Crate Custom Design speakers were removed and replaced with 1970s vintage American-made CTS Alnico 12" speakers.

• Previously reconed/reconditioned

The two 4Ω CTS speakers are wired in series for an 8Ω nominal load.

The FXT120 was originally rated by Crate at 120 watts RMS into a 4Ω load. Because the current CTS pair presents an 8Ω load, 120 watts is the amplifier's factory rating and is not being represented as the output of the present speaker configuration.

The original Crate Custom Design speakers have been removed and are not included.

Amp Features

The FXT120 provides Clean and Overdrive channels, two overdrive gain modes, onboard DSP effects, an electronic tuner, effects insert, and external speaker output.

This is not being presented as an original or collector-stock FXT120. It is a player-focused modified amp combining the inexpensive, powerful Crate 2x12 platform with two genuine 1970s American CTS Alnico speakers and a cleaner blacked-out cosmetic treatment.

The amplifier and both speakers have been tested and are functioning properly. Please review all photos for cosmetic condition and details of the modifications.
