This is a very cool project that started life as a 1953 Gibson Les Paul Std. that was converted to 1959 specs. This conversion was done by Jim Weyandt (Jam City Guitars) and the work, as usual, is impeccable. If you love the tone of an all mahogany Les Paul here is a great one. The body and Brazilian fingerboard are from a 1953 goldtop. I made a new neck and book matched the mahogany top. The seam is almost invisible and it looks like a one piece top. I planed the body down 3/16″ to reduce the weight and the guitar weighs 8lbs. 4oz. Here are the specs: hide glue used for the neck & fingerboard, Urea-formaldehyde glue used to glue top to body (this is what Gibson used in the 50’s for their 335 laminations and LP top to body) aniline dye / nitro finish holly veneer headstock, correct nitrate inlays, Bartlett binding, 1″ vintage steel inserts, 1-1/2″ nickel studs, Cream Tone ABR1 bridge & tailpiece, Grover tuners, VooDoo PAF style pickups, ThroBak M69 rings, mammoth ivory nut, vintage style LP silkscreen, CTS 500K pots, Sprague Orange Drop caps, she’s excellent overall & comes with/a nice molded hard case.
