Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome.

You are looking at a hard to come by older Astatic crystal microphone that resembles the more common 10-C model mic. This is the early 1940's era N-80S with the built in lower adapter and on / off switch.

Pic # 2 shows this very model in an old 1940's era Astatic catalog I have along with it's basic characteristics. The N-80 & N-80S were entry level mics that were used primarily for dispatch and other basic communications. It has a very elegant design and was so popular that Astatic built this as the 10-C well into the 1970's I believe. This N-80S was only built and sold for a short time. Possibly 5 years? You just don't hardly ever see these around.

Pic # 3 shows the original element in this microphone. Please do not ask to see the rear end of the element. I can assure you it's original.

The N-80S is an all metal. lite weight design that actually makes an excellent harp mic but it should be noted that the original crystal element in this mic is only about 60% strength. This would be a great candidate for a Shure C.M or C.R dynamic element as it would fit inside very nicely. I'll let the next owner decide if a mod is the right choice.

As you can see the mic itself is in very good original condition. The painted head shows just lite wear in the form of scratches, scuff marks and spots of paint loss on the original paint. The front chrome grill shows lite pitting but it's free of any dents. The inner black cloth / pop filter is very nice as well with zero rips or odors. The lower pistol grip is very nice as you can see and the joint mechanism has adjustable tension vis side screws. The on / off switch works perfectly as well.

This mic will screw onto any stand you have as it has the universal 5/8 X 27 thread.

The mic comes with the beautiful 1970's era Switchcraft 339A cable adapter. This all metal adapter with satin chrome finish can screw right onto the D4T but in this case it's screwed onto the Amphenol 75-MC1S-385 and this allows you to attach any standard XLR cable you have making it a very practical set up. Much better than the stock cable the N-80S came with. You'll never have to worry about misplacing the older cable.

MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS NOT PART OF THIS SALE...USED FOR DISPLAY PURPOSES ONLY.

As with all my vintage microphones for sale...
