About This Listing

Wow! Ok. I just finished the setup on this thing and got lost in playing it for way too long, and I totally get it. This is a completely
mind blowing guitar, it’s is an absolutely phenomenal instrument!

This is the discontinued T5 standard. Out of all the T5’s that Taylor makes, this color and electronics combination on the T5 standard is most definitely the one to get. It’s a classic Jimmy Page Les Paul sunburst but over a bigger surface so the color has more room to roam. I love the look with that danelectro style lipstick pickup in there, that looks mega classy. The neck feels phenomenal, that is an incredible feeling neck! A little like a Les Paul but comfortably slimmer, just enough of each of an acoustic and an electric feel that it somehow made completely it’s own thing. The whole guitar is made with insane precision. The design is totally groundbreaking and innovative, but all the important traditional high quality luthiery things that I look for in a guitar are expertly done. The bone nut and saddle are cut beautifully, the fretwork is perfect, I love that dark wood headstock veneer, the wood grain on the Sitka spruce top is amazing, the cutaway is super comfortable, the little fretboard extension is tastefully done, and the binding is beautiful. Everywhere you look there’s a new cool detail that was super perfectly executed!

There’s three pickups total present on this thing! An acoustic piezo, that lipstick danelectro style single coil bridge pickup, and a hidden humbucker in the neck position. Yes that’s right, HIDDEN HUMBUCKER, so awesome. Every position sounds super good and is over the top professional. You could play an entire set with this as an acoustic guitar on the piezo pickup through a PA without ever using the electric style pickups and have unrivaled live acoustic tone, then you could walk down the street and play an electric set through a cranked bluesbreaker amp on the same guitar.

You can use either electric or acoustic strings on these, I set it up with D’addario acoustic 11’s. I’ve seen Joni Mitchell play her sets on a Parker carbon fiber guitar, and I wish she was playing on this thing. This guitar really does provide a super practical and satisfying way to get live acoustic tone that’s super high quality and super reliable. We’ve all had great nights playing acoustic live at a venue where the stars all aligned, and we’ve all had it go terribly wrong. This guitar is thin enough to where feedback doesn’t really happen, but it gives you crazy nice acoustic tone while looking totally badass. People who do your sound will love you for making their job easier.

As long as we’re on the subject, Taylor’s solid body electric guitars are actually totally badass. They sound super good, their pickups can hang with any boutique pickup out there. Much like how Martin and ovation both tried to make electrics in the 70’s that were awesome but didn’t really take off, Taylor kind of went down the same road with their electrics. I think those electrics were kind of a spin off of the success of the T5, but the T5 was such an innovative and beautiful design that it broke through to the other side and took off. It had some real staying power as a good guitar.

This one is from 2005, and I’m pretty sure that is the first year of the T5! This is seriously in 9.5/10 condition, it’s almost brand new. I don’t think this was ever seriously played, it very obviously was kept in it’s case for most of it’s life. The 9V battery that was in the guitar was still charged but expired in 2017, and I think those batteries when you first get them are about 10-12 years out on their expiration date. I swear to god that’s the original battery, someone bought this guitar and then proceeded to immediately forget about it for the last 16 years. Awesome.

The case is fantastic, form fitting and looks super attractive. There’s a bit of wear on the case from being in storage, but it still looks super great.

Great guitar!
