ABOUT THE INSTRUMENT:

I am a big fan of 70'S West Coast guitar builders.  They are legends.

This guitar seems linked to many of these legendary builders.

As best we can determine, this guitar was built in the late 1970's or early 80's in California, USA.  It is unplayed in the original JB PLAYER custom case.  Please look at the photos to see the incredible beauty and design of this guitar.

We're really not sure about the pickups (this was built during the time Seymour Duncan was working with the Zacuto brothers, Dana and Randy, at JB PLAYER/Mighty Mite).

This is information that we have been able to glean from online sources:

" JB Player was formerly owned by Dana Zacuto - RIP, whose brother founded Mighty Mite guitars. "

"Dana Zacuto, brother of Randy Zacuto, the founder of Mighty Mite parts, created the J B Player in the early '80's. Early on, he made some component Strat and Tele style instruments. I recall playing them at the factory in Chatsworth. CA in the spring and summer of 1985. They weren't bad instruments. Zacuto then began having a line of inexpensive imports made for him by the Westheimer plant in Korea about the same time. These guitars were sold for a few years longer before disappearing from the market. The imports were very low quality. The early models were similar to Schecters of the late 70's but would be almost impossible to find, due to the lack of production on these models."

16.) WAYNE CHARVEL HISTORY

Randy Zacuto, from JB Player also purchased parts from me. He hired a friend of mine named Seymour Duncan, who had been making tele three piece bridge saddles and rewinding pickups to make Mighty Mite pickups for him. A short time later, Seymour came out with his own line of pickups. We also sold those.

"Randy Zacuto was the founder of Mighty Mite.

He hired Seymour Duncan (OEM work) around the mid 1970s to design and work on Mighty Mite pickups.

Seymour started advertising rewinds in late 1977/ early 1978 and then started making his own pickups in late 1978 and one of these pickups was the short lived EVH pickup which Ed stopped in late 1978/ early 1979.

Thirty years ago, Dave Schecter was part of an elite group of Southern California musical instrument builders when he started Schecter Guitars. Back in the mid-`70s, Schecter, along with Wayne Charvel, Tom Anderson, Lynn Ellsworth (Boogie Bodies), Randy Zacuto (JB Player / Mighty Mite), and one Seymour W. Duncan gave customers high-quality guitars and components that exceeded the offerings of the major guitar brands of the day."

ABOUT THE GUITAR:

THIS IS NOT A BOLT ON NECK.  IT IS THROUGH THE BODY.  A REAL JB PLAYER ORIGINAL.

The body is made of ash and has an amber burst poly finish..  The fretboard is Indian Rosewood.  Tuners are GoToh.

And again, the pickups certainly have the Seymour Duncan characteristics and are very loud. Have a look at the close photos for more detail.
