About this listing
I am offering a Yamaha FG-441 from 1997, one of the high-end acoustic guitar models from Yamaha’s FG series of the 1990s, featuring a voluminous jumbo dreadnought body style, a beautifully aged spruce top, back and sides made of wildly grained African ovangkol wood, set mahogany neck with medium-wide “C” profile, bound rosewood fingerboard with Perloid dot inlays, ebonized rosewood bridge, sealed Yamaha die-cast chrome tuners, and a radiant natural high-gloss finish in excellent condition, including a high-quality hardshell case and professional setup with 12-53 Elixir strings. The FG-441 steel-string acoustic guitar features Yamaha’s signature Jumbo Dreadnought body shape, which is slightly larger than a conventional Dreadnought. It belongs to the FG series (Folk Guitar), which has been part of Yamaha’s family of acoustic guitars—introduced in the 1960s—for nearly half a century. With a sheer vast selection of models, the FG series has established itself over the decades as the best-selling acoustic guitar series of all time. The FG-441 featured here is one of the high-end models from the 1990s and features a beautifully resonant spruce top, while the back and sides are crafted from richly grained ovangkol wood. The fingerboard and bridge are also made of Indian rosewood, and the medium-width, “C”-shaped mahogany neck is equipped with high-quality sealed Yamaha die-cast tuners, which turn smoothly and hold their tuning reliably.Sonically, the FG-441 produces a truly wonderfully warm, balanced sound with superb volume. The highs shine with rich overtones and clarity, the large body ensures solid bass tones, and the mids in particular come through beautifully. The sound is powerful yet clear, with good differentiation between the individual strings. This guitar is perfectly suited for both strumming and picking and performs well across a wide range of genres. With its fresh setup featuring 12-53 Elixir 80/20 strings and a pleasantly low action (2.5 mm at the 12th fret for E6), this Yamaha FG441 is exceptionally playable. The 43mm nut width also ensures that the guitar sits comfortably in the hand.Visually, the grain of the tonewoods is beautifully highlighted by the natural high-gloss finish and complements the multi-layered white-and-black body bindings as well as the rosewood fingerboard edged with cream-white bindings. A mahogany headstock veneered with rosewood and featuring a prominent Yamaha logo inlay, shimmering pearloid dots on the fretboard, and a dark ebonized rosewood bridge round out the guitar’s timeless design.Technical Specifications:Year of manufacture: 1997Body style: Jumbo DreadnoughtTop: SpruceBack / Sides: Flamed African OvangkolFingerboard: Indian rosewood with pearloid dot inlays, boundNeck: Mahogany, set-inNeck profile: Medium “C”Tuners: Yamaha die-cast chrome tunersNut width: 43mmHeadstock: Rosewood veneer with Yamaha logo inlay, boundBinding: White, 6-ply (top) / 2-ply (back)Rosette: Concentric rings with abalone core, multi-plyPickguard: BlackFinish: Natural, high-glossSerial No.: 70507115Includes vintage hardshell caseThis model is no longer manufactured in this form and impresses with its excellent craftsmanship.
