With the EP-1320 Medieval, the Nordic manufacturer Teenage Engineering offers a medieval version of the . Rejoice far and wide, for sword-fighting sounds, bagpipes, hurdy-gurdies, lutes, Gregorian chants, thunderous drums and all manner of exciting sounds – the sort you’re likely to recognise from the last two or three decades of medieval film history and folklore – can be found stored in the EP-1320 Medieval. In Demus mode, you can select nine medieval songs to jam along to using the sounds and instruments from the four banks. The Latin labelling is therefore more of a bonus than a challenge in this context. :-) Technically and functionally, the EP-1320 meets all the specifications of the EP-133, including the Supersegment hybrid display and the twelve velocity-sensitive trigger pads. The EP-1320 Medieval is essentially a 12-track unit; polyphony is 12 voices for stereo samples and 16 voices for mono samples. With a sample rate of 46 kHz / 16-bit, the sound quality is certainly suitable for studio use. The internal memory is specified as 128 MB, divided into 96 MB of ROM sounds and 32 MB of user sample memory. As most one-shot samples are fairly short, there is still enough space left for stereo samples, freshly sampled material from the audio input and vocals recorded using the built-in microphone.Memory Management & SequencerThe sampler manages a total of nine projects, each with a capacity of 80,000 notes. A project contains four sets of 99 patterns, each of which can have a maximum length of up to 99 bars. Each pattern has twelve tracks for samples and MIDI; a chromatic mode is also available for playing samples tonally. Notes are recorded in Live Mode; a metronome can be activated for rhythmic guidance. Thanks to the 12 punch-in effects, you can effortlessly create rhythm changes, fades and breaks on a note-by-note basis that will send any pub into a frenzy! The samples within a pattern can be edited using standard parameters such as level, pitch, filter, A/R envelope, pan, etc. There are also six great-sounding audio effects and a master compressor.ConnectionsThe device initially connects to the outside world via the built-in speaker. Inputs and outputs for stereo line, MIDI and sync are provided via 3.5mm stereo jack sockets. Power is supplied either via USB-C or four AAA batteries. The USB-C port is also used for data transfer with a computer and MIDI integration with the DAW. Audio is not transmitted via this connection.
