About this listing
Here is an incredible 1964 Melody Maker D in its factory original sunburst finish. Museum quality condition and clearly spent the majority of its life in the case. It is one of only a few Gibsons I’ve seen from this era with a finish that has retained most of its luster and with minimal finish checking. The only cosmetic items of real note are traditional playing marks on the pickguard and some lacquer imprints on the back of the guitar - these are almost certainly from long time storage. The guitar is 60+ years old, so there are signs of use and handling as one would expect - however, for a guitar of this vintage, it is in remarkable shape. You will be very hard pressed to find a 1964 Gibson in better condition - especially a two- pickup model. This is an opportunity to own a golden era two-pickup Gibson at a reasonable price.Constructed of a stunning one-piece South American mahogany body with a traditional set neck and a gorgeous dark Rosewood fingerboard. The original frets have plenty of life left. Pickups, electronics and controls are all original and sound fantastic. Tuning machines are original and fully functional. Recently set up and re-strung, this guitar is equally ready to be a collector’s piece or daily player. Ships with an SKB hardshell case.
