About this listing
The Case...This guitar comes with its original Gibson Custom Shop hardshell case. It has a burgundy interior with a black exterior. It shows signs of use and storage, but is in fully functioning shape. Inside the case compartment sleeps the COA, hang tags and other various papers documenting its history. The Guitar! | 50s Chunky Neck - 6lbs 6ozThis Olive Drab Flying V 1959 Reissue is a sweet ride! My research popped up at least 2 other versions just like this one done in 2019/2020 as well as another one done as a p90/wraptail! I'd imagine it was a small PSL run of ~5 ish guitars but have no definitive answer. This was originally sold by Chicago Music Exchange in 2019. Gibson doesn't currently make mahogany '59 reissues anymore so it doesn't seem likely more will be made! The original owner has it in on consignment with me. He purchased this to tour Europe with in 2020 because it sounded so good and was extra lightweight... but COVID had other plans! It is equipped with a bubblebee capacitor and unpotted Custombuckers from the factory. It is a very musical guitar - any time you play a low-g note, the neck starts vibrating like crazy and the low-e string's excess leading into the body has a cool sympathtic ringing reverb/echo effect when you match your last solo note with whatever it is tuned to. This is 100% original and a really nice V!I'm a tough grader - I take the time to list the small stuff. I would call this an 8.5 / 10 on my harsh scale. It just underwent body + fret polishing with fresh 9 gauge strings installed (4-14-25) while being documented on my YouTube Show. This will look clean from only a few feet away - but when you shine the light on it or view it at an angle looking for flaws - here is what you'll notice-polishing swirls (this was originally a VOS finish, so I opted not to do my scratch remover - only polish)-light scratches deeper than swirls into the clearcoat in the picking area. There are scratches on the pickguard and pickup rings as well- the factory mis-installed the output jack plate. I reinstalled the screw a bit crooked to allow for it to sit properly + secure. It is not likely you'll have an issue with this unless you take the guitar apart. - superficial cracks in the plastic knobs- very mild buckle worming marks on the back- finish blemishes likely from sunscreen/lotion at the base of the neck and by the shoulders of the body- mild scratches by the string through ferrules / on the back of guitar- 3 dings on the edge. I would say these are the worst things cosmetically on this guitar. The finish isn't broken, though.-mild scratches along the edge of the headstock- strap scuff marks by the top strap pin- Gibson didn't fully buff the finish right by the nut on the headstock. It is orange peely there.-mild scratches on the face of the headstockWhile this guitar functions nearly perfectly... I did have a few cases of the output cutting out if pushing the 3-way toggle switch up/down (opposite normal function), same with wiggling the bridge volume pot. The wiring cavity is quite tight so these small, uncommon movements inadvertently ground-out the signal on occasion. If you're looking to gig this, you might have your tech see what wire is touching whom and add some insulation. The toggle switch is also a little noisy when flipping pickup switches. This is fine for at home use, but for live - you might consider swapping/additional minor work.
