Waves Releases Big Update to Its Free StudioRack Platform

Waves' StudioRack has long been a powerful tool in a producer or mixing engineer's toolbox: Letting you load up to eight plugins on one chain, easily save and use presets, and use your StudioRack chains across DAWs, all while taking pity on your CPU.

Today, Waves is announcing a large update to the platform—and it's available for free.

How to create "Custom Plugins" using new StudioRack Macros.

The eight-plugin-per-chain capabilities are still in place, but in addition, you'll find new features aimed at giving you even more flexibility and malleability with your multi-plugin creations, along with a sleek redesigned user interface. The new features, according to Waves include:

8 Macros Per Chain: Combine multiple plugin parameters in a chain into a single macro—8 Macros per chain in total. By using the macros, you are essentially turning each entire StudioRack chain into a “custom plugin” (similar to how Waves artist signature plugins are built.)

Parallel Processing Racks: Split any chain at any point into parallel processing racks—the easiest, fastest way to do parallel processing.

Multiband Racks: Split any chain at any point into multiband/crossover racks. Now you can turn any Waves plugin into a multiband processor (for example: turn CLA-2A or CLA-76 or R-Comp into a multiband compressor; etc. etc.)

Like before, you'll be able to mix-and-match Waves plugins in StudioRack with third-party plugins as well. Importantly for fans of Waves' latest V11 plugins (first released in late 2019), you can now use them with StudioRack, where, previously, they had not been compatible.

The new macros-per-chain feature allows users to create complex relationships between the plugins, while the ability to split your virtual racks into parallel or multiband processing at the click of a button gives you easier-than-ever ways to achieve those mixing techniques.
