Video: Strymon Lights Up the NightSky

With a conventional reverb effect, you may be given the approximation of a large room or the sound of your signal as it passes through a spring. But what if you want to stretch and manipulate that reverberation into something else entirely?

Strymon's NightSky is a new, elaborate pedal that blows open the world of reverb possibilities.

Strymon is calling the NightSky a "reverberant synthesis workstation," which is a fitting term for the huge range of synth-like tone-shaping and compositional tools the pedal provides.

To start, the NightSky lets you modulate your reverb tail, its pitch, or the pedal's onboard filter with your choice of waveshape. You can add or subtract the amount of texture your decaying signal holds. You can shape the tone with the NightSky's filter, selectable as "regen" (which removes high frequencies as it decays) or as a resonant low-pass filter.

But the truly experimental side of the pedal is its eight-step step sequencer. With your choice of one of eight quantized scales, you can craft new harmonies out of your reverb tail, in the minor or major pentatonic, dorian, minor blues, or other modes. And in addition, you can add a Shimmer, Drive, or a "Glimmer" effect—where higher or lower frequencies are exaggerated across the harmonic spectrum.

Like the best of Strymon's effects, the NightSky is one of those creations that encourages exploration. To hear just a bit of what it can do, watch our video above. Order your NightSky on Reverb now.
