This week's Find of the Week is a 1962 Gibson ES-335 that was formerly owned by Australian country star Keith Urban.
For those who need a reminder, the Gibson ES-335—that's ES for Electric Spanish—was introduced in 1958 as the world's first semi-hollowbody electric guitar with a maple body and a mahogany neck. As a middle ground between the warmer tone of their early hollowbodies and the feedback-proof sustain of the Les Paul, they quickly became the industry standard for a wide range of genres.
According to the seller—Seattle's Emerald City Guitars—Urban's 335 is all-original, with the exception of a replaced switch tip, new tuners for better accuracy, and a refret to strengthen the action.
Fitted with the original PAF humbuckers with a seasoned checked finish and "snake bite" Bigsby mounting holes on top, this guitar has an irresistible worn-and-torn look ideal for the country player—the guitar even made a cameo in the video for Keith's 2008 single "Sweet Thing".
