This Friday's Find of the Week is a special one indeed: a 1954 Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins model. This is a first-run model that was one of less than 70 total guitars produced in that first batch.
The 6120 was the first of many Atkins-endorsed signature model that Gretsch would go on to produce, as it became extremely popular with a variety of players upon its release. The 6120 itself was iterated on quite a bit before Gretsch ceased production in the late '70s.
After ownership changed hands, Gretsch started large-scale production in 1989 of new guitars based on classic models. Subsequently, several iterations of the 6120 models can be found on the new and used market today. But this particular guitar—a 6120 so early it's nearly a prototype—is special.
The listing description confirms that this particular specimen is 100% all-original and is in fantastic condition with no cracks, breaks, or repairs. It comes complete with its original fixed arm Bigsby vibrato arm and its transparent orange finish features Grestch's early "G" brand on the body near the top f-hole.
