Don't think twice about this week's Find of the Week: it's a 1960s Hammond B3 organ formerly owned by Barry Goldberg, a veteran keyboardist and record producer whose many credits include a stint in Bob Dylan's backing band.
Barry Goldberg started his career as a blues session musician in Chicago, sitting in with the likes of Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Shortly after, he joined the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, who would back up Bob Dylan during his now-legendary "electric" set at Newport Folk Festival in 1965. Since then, he went on to appear as a sideman for Leonard Cohen, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Stephen Stills.
The organ includes the original stand and lid, and was chopped and modified by Bill Beer before being serviced by Bill Axman of Alltek Organ in Los Angeles. For those unfamiliar, a "chop" refers to an organ which has been repackaged into a portable case. Often, this involves removing the internal speakers and bass pedals, which appears to be the case with this particular B3.
