Back in 1958, Epiphone brought its first original solid-body guitar model, the Crestwood, into production. It became a fan-favorite and the template for the brand's next three solid-bodies—the Wilshire, Coronet, and Crestwood Custom—that hit the market the following year. Fast-forward to 2020, and Epiphone's product line is all about bringing back the classics.
In addition to the new Inspired by Gibson acoustics and ES Originals Collection (also released today), Epiphone has announced that it's bringing back its three classic '50s-era solid-body guitars a modern guitar-playing audience.
The new Crestwood Custom harkens back to its 1959 roots, featuring many of the same design choices as the original—namely, a symmetrical, double-cutaway mahogany body packed with two Epiphone Pro Mini Humbucker pickups and married to a glued-on mahogany neck with a medium C profile.
Most notably, the Crestwood Custom features an Epiphone LockTone Tune-O-Matic bridge with a Tremtone vibrato tailpiece.
The new Wilshire P90 also promises to bring back what players loved about the exceedingly popular 1959 guitar, also featuring the same symmetrical double-cutaway body shape. This body is outfitted with super thick dual Epiphone Pro P-90 Soapbar pickups and is married to a glued-on mahogany neck with a medium C profile, Indian laurel fretboard, and a reduced-size Kalamazoo headstock.
Last but in no way the least, the Coronet is a simple classic, featuring the same symmetrical double-cutaway shape as the other two models (and its older 1959 ancestor). This single-pickup model features an Epiphone PRO P-90 Dogear pickup, and fans of Epiphone's modern line will also be happy to see the Kalamazoo headstock staple.
This model likewise features a mahogany body with a glued-on mahogany neck with a medium C profile, and an Epiphone Lightning Bar compensated wraparound bridge.
