This Moog Opus 3 is a classic early-80s paraphonic analog ensemble synthesizer, designed as a performance-oriented “string machine + organ + brass”
Manufacturer: Moog
Year: ~1979–1980
Designer: Herbert A. Deutsch
Type: Analog subtractive, divide-down ensemble synth
Keyboard: 49 keys
Polyphony: Full (all notes playable simultaneously via divide-down architecture)
Oscillator system: Divide-down (single top-octave generator split across keys)
LFO: Waveforms: triangle, square, saw up/down. Routes to pitch (vibrato) or filter (wah-like effects)
Envelopes: Global + section-specific shaping
Filter types: 24dB Moog ladder (brass/shared). Multi-mode filter (strings)
The Opus 3 is tri-sectional, and all three sound engines run in parallel:
1. Strings
Multi-mode filter (low / band / high pass) with resonance
Dedicated envelope (ADSR/AR depending on routing)
Built-in chorus (signature lush sound)
2. Brass
Moog-style 24dB ladder filter with resonance
Envelope shaping
Can share routing with other sections
3. Organ
Divide-down organ with drawbar-style tone shaping
No dedicated resonant filter (more static tone shaping)
All three sections can be layered simultaneously and can be balanced with individual volume + panning controls
The synth has been fully serviced by a Music Electronics Engineer. No Degraded foam. Fully functional power supply, divider chips, sliders and pots. No dead sections.
In Excellent cosmetic and functioning condition. Comes with a soft carrier case and a wooden protection box (see photos).
This synth should grace the shelves of any discerning Music Instrument Collector.
