ARIA DIAMOND 1720 BASS - aka UNIVOX HI-FLIER PHASE I MIJ c.1970

A vintage MIJ offset bass that is fast-becoming rare and collectable. The sound and the feel of these basses helps them punch way above their weight.

This is the Aria Diamond (still Arai at the time) 1720 or (U.S. export models) Univox Hi-Flier Phase I bass - made in Japan at the Matsumoku plant somewhere around 1970-71.

Condition-wise...

Original and very good cosmetically.

The neck is almost spotless. Just one small dig to the end of the head.

The body has no modifications or repairs. Just a few age-related hairlines to the top surface finish and neck pocket. These are quite typical and purely cosmetic. (Please see photos)

Fretboard is great, frets are good and hardware is all-original - pickups, controls, tuners, bridge and original chrome bridge cover are all good.

Electrics are fine too.

Best of all are these fantastic original P90-type pickups which are actually powerful single coils with a really full and wide frequency range.

The sound is super-punchy, solid and dynamic. It plays very fast and smooth.

Overall...

An increasingly rare and collectable Matsumoku golden-era build bass in great condition.

In the world of Japanese short-scales, with these superb pickups and cool reverse offset, these are the dog's reproductive parts.

This is one seriously cool bass to play, hear or merely gaze at.

A Note On Shipping:

We want you to be fully satisfied with everything - from the item itself (naturally!) through the shipping, packaging, communication etc.

Of course there is nothing we can do about customs duty, local taxes etc at your end. But we can keep the overall price as competitive as is decently possible.

The Japan post office service (EMS) is reliable and efficient but shipping costs from Japan to Europe or the states are unavoidably expensive.

For this reason none of the shipping costs we quote reflect the actual price we have to pay. We are more than willing to take a hit on that to make things as attractive for you as possible.

Vintage Instruments & Equipment

Shipping by air plus climatic changes can affect how a guitar is set up - no matter how well it is packed. Consequently there is no guarantee that an instrument arrives with exactly the same set up as stated. After a period of acclimatisation, you may still need to make any adjustments at your own expense.
