Background

In early 2000's, Status Quo band retired their old Telecaster guitars and had new ones made by Jamie Davey to replace them. Most followers of Status Quo will be familiar with those early instruments and how dilapidated they were in later years. Andy Bown had a new pink one made as a copy of his old one (see photo of him taking delivery) in 2007. Later, in 2013, Andy returned the pink guitar to have humbucker pickups fitted. In the process the bridge and existing pickups were removed and subsequently added to this guitar (see photo of letter), meaning that the pickups and bridge on this guitar were used for 6 years by Andy Bown on his guitar on stage and in the studio with Status Quo before being added to this guitar.

Weight: 3.41 kg / 7.52 pounds.

Condition: The guitar is in excellent condition. The daphne blue colour is beautiful.

PROVENANCE

A signed letter of provenance dated 9th July, 2018 from Jamie Davey, the maker of this guitar and all of the other guitars for Status Quo (see photo).

With its provenance and close ties to Status Quo, this guitar would really be suited to a fan of Status Quo, although it is a great player and should certainly be played. It definitely has a full lifetime of playing left in it.

Having owned telecasters made by Fender, I can say that these ones by Jamie are better than the ones that Fender makes.

This instrument will appeal to collectors, investors and players alike, who have an interest in rare artist-related instruments with good provenance.
