Tanglewood recognise that to introduce people to music an instrument must have a high build quality, good playability, attractive cosmetics and as many features as possible to encourage and reward aspiring musicians.

Using this design brief, Tanglewood luthiers created the Discovery Exotic series, a whole range of genuine musical instruments which feature 4 band EQ systems with stage backlighting, delicate 2mm fingerboard dots, black soft touch machine head buttons and understated sound hole rosettes. All these features are aimed at bringing the specification of a much more expensive instrument into the entry level market.

We love Folk shape guitars, and believe we can build them pretty well, and this exotic model is no exception.

We select wide grained dark Ebony to give the classiest of cosmetics to the instrument and contrast that with almost mountain top white Himalayan Spruce to give the most remarkable aesthetic.

Each top is braced with quarter sawn spruce and designed to project well, produce rich warm Bass notes and soaring mid and highs. The Ebony and Spruce timbers compliment each other, both being hard, strong, reflective tone woods, and we add the warmth and Bass through the bracing pattern, to give the best of all worlds.

These are striking instruments for players who want something beautiful to look at as well as play!
