This guitar started life as a brand new Harley Benton TE-20HH SBK Standard Series Electric Guitar and has been professionally customised by myself to incorporate a LED infinity mirror. This current version now features a microprocessor controlled addressable LED strip along with a sliding switch to turn the batteries ON/OFF.
***See the demo Youtube video link**.
This guitar was purchased from the Thomann online store specifically for the following modification :-
- The black guitar body has been precision milled using a CNC machine to create a semi-hollow body. The depth of milling has been minimised to retain good body strength whilst the guitar is under tension by the strings.
- An addressable RGB LED strip has been fitted around the inside perimeter of the semi-hollow body, held in place by 3D printed black PETG grips. This design allows for easy replacement of the addressable RGB LED strip if required.
- Two CNC milled acrylic mirrors fitted inside and on top of the semi-hollow body.
- Original Harley Benton bridge humbucker, volume pot, tone pot and jack.
- The back of the body contains the battery power switch, housing for four 1.2V AA NiMH rechargeable batteries (NOT INCLUDED) and the ATmega microprocessor. These are enclosed by a 3D printed black PETG cover. Access for inserting/removing of batteries can be achieved via the sliding 'maton design' red logo cover.
- The addressable RGB LED light strip can be controlled using the keypad (CR2032 battery included) which is held in place by a 3D printed black PETG surround fitted to the back of the guitar body.
The above modification allows for normal use/playing of the guitar with no extra connections (e.g. USB or external power supplies).
The addressable RGB LED strip is rated at 5 Volts and therefore four AA 1.2 Volt NiMH Rechargeable batteries are required:- 2500 mAh (or more) capacity is highly recommended and should keep the LEDs lit for around 3 hours when the LEDs are all white. However, choosing to light only red LEDs, for example, will minimise the battery power consumption and hence the LEDs operate for longer.
The string height/action measurement images are on the 12th fret.
DO NOT USE 1.5 VOLT NON-RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES!
I have designed this guitar modification for the performing musician, hence it is robust and looks incredible on stage. However, this guitar could also be used as decorative wall art in a shop, restaurant etc...e.g. with a little soldering and basic electrical knowledge, one could further mod the guitar to run off a d.c. 5v (2 Amps or more) power supply instead of batteries.
The price for this item is based on:-
- time for research/development,
- the cost of extra hardware parts + Harley Benton guitar,
- time spent designing the CNC files,
- milling time,
- time designing the 3D printed parts,
- 3D print time,
- assembly and testing,
- selling fees (also listed on Ebay for £575).
Please do message me if you have any questions/queries:-)
The guitar will be posted in a sturdy cardboard box (and inner cardboard box) with further paper packing. So double packed;-)
POSTAGE IS FREE TO MAINLAND UK ONLY (OR LOCAL PICKUP IS FINE).
