Up for sale here is a beautiful 1980 Tokai LS-80 ‘Love Rock’ Goldtop Standard Les Paul. Although the 1979-‘85 LS-50’s & 60’s are fine guitars & imo beat most other vintage & modern LP’s in their own right, this is where the really high-end stuff starts with vintage Tokai. We are talking non-chambered mahogany body with carved 2-piece maple top, nitrocellulose finish, fret-edge binding (nibs) and long neck tennon. It goes without saying this has a mahogany set-neck & not a cheaper bolt-on (we don’t sell bolt-on neck Les Pauls). This one has a beautifully streaked rosewood fingerboard too. It has its original vintage Gotoh PAFs. Which sound great. These also came as standard on the LS-100. They are really underrated humbuckers. It has some original Grovers fitted too which is a bonus. Weight is 4.7kg. Comfortable ’59-60 profile neck. None of the clouding you sometimes see on the Tokai headstocks from this period. Has some vintage ageing all over the plastics with the white binding turning cream and the metal hardware nicely tarnished. No pickguard but one has been previously fitted. Solid and chunky and plays like a good old vintage Les Paul should. Straight neck, truss rod fine, plenty of life left in the frets. In very good condition with some of the usual dings and marks you’d expect to find on a vintage Les Paul. You get all the good ageing without any nasty bad stuff. No breaks or repairs etc. Just good mojo. I’ll let the pics tell the rest of the story. Complete with a vintage Japanese leatherette gig bag.
