For your consideration is an early 70's Epiphone Crestwood ET-278. This model was made in Japan and not only is it one of the coolest looking guitars I've had but it sounds and plays fantastic. I'm not sure on the exact year of manufacture. I've read they marked it inside the neck cavity and I've never had it off.
It's a maple body and bolt on maple neck. To my knowledge it is all original except for the knobs. I had planned to replace the electronics and pickups but after cleaning up the pots/switch/jack they are working flawlessly and the pups actually sound great! With the stock electronics working proper in a vintage instrument I didn't dare change them. The knobs I could tell were not stock so I swapped what was on there for the black speed knobs in the photos. The knobs appear to be older and look great with the guitar.
The pickguard had a woman's name etched into the back of the coating on a clear pickguard. I scraped all the coating of and painted the back white again, came out great! The truss rod cover also had another name etched into it so I sanded it down smooth. Those are the only modifications I know of that happened with this guitar.
The neck profile is pretty slim. The frets are a vintage profile and barely have any fret wear to speak of. Tuners are smooth and hold tune well. No hardware issues to report at all.
The finish really shows it's age and has many scratches, dings, etc. No cracks or any excessive damage though. The neck and headstock are bound and the binding is starting to "yellow" nicely and is pretty much in tact the whole way around. There are two pretty large dings on the back of the neck as illustrated in the photo.
There is no case but will ship in a Road Runner brand gig bag. It will ship insured via FedEx Ground.
At $450 I'm not sure you can find a current production model of this quality/caliber let alone a MIJ vintage model.
Thanks for looking!
