Rare Steve Phillips acoustic 1980

A rare opportunity to acquire an acoustic made by Steve Phillips and used by him for much of his solo career from the 1980s. Based on popular Martin shape embellished with Steve Phillips features, Steve used this guitar often when performing with the Notting Hillbillies. Back and body are rosewood. Tuners are Waverleys. Soft V neck profile. 12 fret to the body. Using the same panel of spruce for the tops, he made two identical guitars numbered 7 and 8. He gave number 7 to Mark Knopfler, this is among those featured on a large litho-poster of some Mark's acoustic guitars. This one, stamped number 8, he kept for himself. The guitar is also stamped N S PHILIPPS, LEEDS, ENGLAND. Steve Phillips has only ever made around 20 guitars and they very rarely come onto the market.

Given its age and usage, the guitar is in very good condition. On the back there is an old hairline crack of around 4 and a half inches which Steve himself repaired (see image12, note that there are no black marker points on the actual guitar !). There are a few small marks of use here and there and some light worming one the top. See images.

All but the last image are of the guitar. The last one being a close up of Mark's as shown on the litho (hence apparent colour variation).

The guitar comes with a light-weight hard-soft case.
