1980-model Tokai LS-80. The 'Reborn Old' series was only made for a short while in 1980, prior to the change to 'Love Rock'. These old Tokais are some of the most accurate 50's LP replicas/copies out there. The LS-80 was modeled after the 1958 Les Paul, with a nice plain top and a thick neck profile (much like an R8). These early Tokais have all the 'right' specifications including a real 1 pc. Mahogany body (some later they seem to have moved to Asian/African Mahogany), 1 pc. neck, solid Maple top and nitro finish. The model number is stamped at the bottom of the fretboard.
Everything original except nut, which is a Japanese reproduction (real bone). Tokai-stamped double-ring tuners, solid brass saddles, and untouched fret-edge-binding. All nickel hardware with a nice patina. Has suffered the typical neck break. The repair has been carried out properly with hot hide glue and refinish (please see pictures). Part of the repair area has been slightly dented, but the repair seems strong and the guitar is also highly resonant.
The guitar is being sold with original Gotoh PAF pickups in 'zebra' and original pickup rings (here pictured with '59 repro parts). The consensus around these Gotoh pickups is that they are decent, but can be improved upon, but personally, I think they sound quite good. Especially in the neck where they bring a lot of clarity, seldom found in humbuckers.
I am sorry to anyone's interested, but this guitar is only offered for EU-residents for the time being due to CITES.
