Antoria 698M late 1970's - Blonde

1970’s “Oasis Wonderwall” Antoria 698M (Gibson J-200)

Sought after Antoria, (Ibanez) 'Lawsuit Gibson J-200 (?)’ Acoustic Jumbo Guitar Model No. 698M. Does not have a serial number so most probably late 60s/early 70s model. I’ve owned it (bought second hand) since 1981.

Made famous by Oasis when it was used by Noel in their Wonderwall music video, making them quite sought-after by Oasis fans. Other famous users include Noddy Holder who can be seen playing one in the Seventies.

These Antorias are becoming harder to come by so grab this one while you can.

The guitar is in remarkable condition for its age and use, it has been treated kindly over the years. Neck is straight and true. Built to a high standard with beautiful inlays and binding, there are no cracks or crazes in the finish (except for some items noted below). All original apart from the nut (see below). See photos

There are a few items that need to be addressed to bring it back to a “collectors” standard.

I used the guitar for many of my early playing years but it has not been on my “front row” for quite some time. When parked up at the back of the guitar collection it was in need of some love and care to bring it to its former glory.  

1         The Nut has been replaced (not long before I garaged it up). However, although playable, it needs re-doing to a higher standard to regain the true playing potential of the guitar (I had a bone nut fitted previously). See photo

2         There is a small area of damage on the sound-board (it was there when I bought it!). This needs colour match filling and finishing. See photo

3         There is some slight bellying of the sound-board behind the bridge but this is stable (always used medium light gauge strings). See photo

4         The Gold-plated tuners are very faded through use. Replacements are available.

5         Well used and loved and in remarkable condition for its age, the guitar does carry various dings around its body but not scratched or cracked. See photos (and zoom in).

The guitar will be supplied in its old (rather tatty, decorated and road-worn) hard case for protection and shipping. When restored I’m sure she won’t mind being treated to a new case.

I don’t have the time now to tackle the work myself so I am selling with this in mind as she will make for a nice restoration project.
