It is 1954 when Hofner introduces the 125. When the English company Selmer started selling Hofners in 1957, the model name "Club" was introduced. Thus, the 125 was renamed the Hofner Club 40.

This model proved to be an instant hit with young skiffle combos: John Lennon, George Harrison, Ritchie Blackmore and David Gilmour all played a Club in their early days. Their short scale and compact size make them really easy to play and the control panel offers a wide range of sound configurations.

This hollow-body guitar has maple back and sides with a spruce top. The Sunburst finish is showing some nice weatherchecking besides the usual playwear. The thick maple neck has a pearloid headstock overlay and rosewood fretboard with zero fret. The Hofner 'Toaster' pickup with 'Diamond' Hofner logo provides the characteristic tone while an added humbucker in the bridge position adds more versatility. To switch between both pickups, a 3-way rotary pickup selector has been installed.

The tailpiece has been replaced with a newer tailpiece of the same model as the original. The Club 40 is becoming very rare so it is also a popular collectors item. Comes in a gigbag with TFOA passport.
