This is a very nice aluminium riveted sealed with a full cork so that the sound created is mainly because of the mute. It has a great vintage 1930/40s buzz sound. I have searched for this actual mute but I have not found the exact same thing. Over the years I have had lots of used mutes that have been painted all white, I am not sure if this was a rule in the forces and bands?; But as a rule most seemed to have been done in a rush and the finish has never been good. I no the first ones had a steel tube brass copper aluminium and later used cardboard and plastic and a lot of the early makers started with riveting and some changed after a while to other ways. It does flare out a bit at the bottom so I don't think it is home made. It is a bit like a hums and berg but I couldn't say for sure. It is a great addition to your vintage maybe antique mute collection and if I hadn't been jumped by some gypsies and lost my front teeth ruining 45 years of work and learning practice and funds playing the trumpet and flugelhorn I would not be selling them. But unfortunately I have to move forward. Thanks and any help with this is welcome. Please let me know where you are and I might be able to post at your cost and any sensible offers welcome
