This 2017 (12-12-2017) PRS Silver Sky USA John Mayer model was the prototype of the Silver Sky model (the holy grail of modern guitars). Very important and valuable piece of musical history. Extremely rare collectors item. Pre-production guitar, the birth, mother, and blueprint of the Silver Sky model. PRS officially released the Silver Sky model in 2018. This guitar was owned by Carlos Santana. Including verification letters personally signed and prototype confirmed by Paul Reed Smith and hardcase.

During the research and development of the Silver Sky models, this particular guitar was used as prototype and you can see many try-outs on this particular guitar design specifically at the electronics. The team at PRS were making hundreds of try-out guitars during the Silver Sky development process and 1 or 2 were called ’MAGIC’, because these 1 or 2 guitars were the perfect guitars to clone ALL of the others you can purchase now in every guitar store. That being said, this guitar is actually the birth, the mother, and blueprint of all the others that were build.

This holy grail of modern guitars was send from PRS Artist Relations to Carlos Santana for personal evaluation (wow!). Many interviews and articles about John Mayer about the PRS Silver Sky model are referring to the ’MAGIC’ guitar. Paul Reed Smith even told that this prototype wasn’t supposed to be in ’the wild’. He means this particular guitar had to be in the PRS archive.
