Altec 1566a Tube Preamp DI vintage 1950s

For sale is a fully restored 1950s Altec 1566a tube preamp. This is the best character pre I have ever used, it sounds amazing on vocals, guitars, drums, anything you throw at it. 

I have entirely recapped the unit with the best quality components I could find. The can capacitors were custom ordered from Hayseed Hamfest and the rest sources from Tube Depot and DigiKey. I build guitar amps and restore tube equipment in my spare time and this unit is fully tested and ready for a new home. 

It comes with the very sought after 4722 Mic transformer (which goes for 250-300 on Reverb/eBay), as well as the 15095 line transformer. So you can use this as a mic preamp, or a really great DI for a line input. Sounds especially good on electric bass. Non original knobs. No rack ears.

The unit will come with all the original capacitors and resistors that were replaced, the selenium rectifier that was replaced with two diodes, and an XLR and quarter inch pigtail for connecting the unit with your system.
