Howdy!
For sale is my old Hofner Verithin 1963. I've had this gal for two years, and before that my uncle owned her since the early seventies. She's been completely untouched by amateur repair hands in her time, and with the exception of the strings and spring for the Bigsby is entirely original; same hardware, same neck, same frets, pick guard, Bigsby, you name it, all unchanged.
As you can imagine, she's not in mint condition after almost sixty years on the road, but you'd be surprised at how beautiful she's stayed - no major damage and no major repairs since the early seventies (and no evidence of any before then), with a small collection of dings and scratches, a loose anchor for the pickguard, and a slight crackle to the pots. Unsurprisingly she has a fair amount of wear on the finish, mostly around the neck and bindings, and she also has some wearing to the frets at the low end due to use.
I've included everything in the photos - honesty is the best policy after all - so there's no hidden surprises with this girl. She hooks up and plays lovely and aside from the aforementioned crackle (resolved by some contact cleaner I'd think) and missing spring she's in perfect working order. She's looking damn good for hitting sixty, and she's been through a lot. As you can tell by the state of the case, she's been around a heck of a lot!
In short, this is a pretty damn unique opportunity to get your hands on a vintage bit of guitar history in excellent condition and untouched by any bodges or amateur repair work. All original and all ready to rock right out the also original case.
In case you're wondering, I'm selling her so that someone else will appreciate her properly. I'm a bassist after all, and while I grew up with this guitar and have a lot of love for her it'd be a crying shame for her to just hang up on a wall for the rest of her days and not be appreciated by the right hands.
Have a look, and give me a shout. Open to sensible offers, so have at it. Postage to be discussed with the buyer - I will personally deliver anywhere in mainland Scotland or the North of England (with the buyer covering fuel), and beyond that the buyer can arrange a courier at their own risk (I will pack her up nicely though!).
Have fun!
Daniel
