This is the modified analog pedal (seems to be disappearing), not the new digital pedal!
Modified DOD 250
Nice pedal, lots of potential. It reminds me of that smooth distortion sound of the 70's. The stock pedal is a lot like the MXR Distortion +. By design this pedal rolls off bass as the gain is turned up. This makes the pedal a bit treble heavy when the gain is up. This will also cause much less clipping than one would expect when the gain is turned up.
The mods on this pedal are inspired by mods developed by Brian Wampler. We changed the clipping slightly. We replaced stock capacitors and resistors with high quality metal film components, some of a different value.
The result is a warmer, fuller pedal with more available distortion. This pedal also cleans up nicely.
We could have stopped there with the mods, but there is more:
- We swapped out the foot switch for a 3PDT, then we re-wired this pedal for true bypass. No tone sucking here!
- We also drilled and added an LED. The LED is clear when the effect is off, and a very noticeable blue when it is switched on.
- We also took out that useless 1/8 inch power jack, drilled the hole out to 1/2 inch, and installed a standard 9 volt DC jack. Now it works off of the same power source as your other pedals :)
*The video clip is by Douglas Nisbet of the UK. He wrote:
"Here is a short clip so you can hear my style. If you think my playing could he used for any YouTube video to advertise your awesome pedals, then I'd be happy to be involved. If not...well I'm still happy to have this amazing pedal!!!"
"We make your sounds sound good!"
Thanks for looking, and keep rockin!
Mike
