Up for sale is a beautifully constructed 1960's Braun Electronics tube recording console with 12 inputs and 4 outputs. Likely a custom, one of a kind console, I have never seen another like this Braun for sale or even mentioned on the internet. This is by far the nicest sounding complete console I've used (tube or transistor). Far superior to any transistor Quad Eight/Electrodyne or Neve/Api console as far as pure sound quality and overall build quality. The channels are all hand-wired and have the same weight/feel as the 1960's EMI and Sound Techniques modules I used to own. I personally think this desk sounds much better than the transistor EMI sidecar I sold a few years back. Each channel features huge coil inductors and custom wound input/output transformers. The preamps are on par with a Langevin 5116 and the simple two band inductor EQ is smooth like a Langevin 251A program EQ. I saved this console out of many I've owned over the years to build a small (and simple) private studio - but unfortunately our house needs additional restoration so I'm selling off a few rare pieces to cover the mounting costs.
Console details: -12 Line/Mic Inputs with factory wired direct outs, one echo send & adjustable gain. All stepped, high-quality switches. -2 Band EQ on each channel (60Hz and 12K). -Each channel uses 5 nuvistor tubes (RCA 7895 & 7586) and are fully transformer balanced (input and output). -4 buss modules with echo return inputs -Each buss uses 3 nuvistor tubes and are also fully transformer balanced. -The nuvistors used in the channels and busses are readily available and are the same as were used in the AKG C12A / C28B microphones. -The console has two new Acopian power supplies for the plate (100V) and filament (6.3V) voltages. -1 tube compressor module with transformer I/O (not connected) -1 tube hall module module with transformer I/O (not connected)
-1 filter module module with transformer I/O (not connected) -1 built in spring reverb (not connected) -Console dimensions: 49"x38"x18". Approximate weight 150lbs.
All channels and busses are functional. All the channels have been professionally recapped and sound incredible. I was planning to connect the compressor module, filter module, hall module, and internal spring reverb tank when the console was installed in the studio so those modules have not been tested or recapped. If you want those modules functional I know any competent tech could do so in a day or two since the circuits are very simple. The frame has some minor veneer damage in two spots, but the modules and all the electronic components are in near mint condition. The console is located two hours west of Chicago in IL. I'm happy to assist with freight shipping, but please understand due to the fragile nature of vintage electronics any risk associated with shipping is going to be your responsibility. Local pickup is welcome. Payment by check or wire transfer only for this listing. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have. I hope this console finds a good home!
