Mizuno MD46 acoustic fingerstyle guitar
This wonderful guitar was made in 1998 by Japanese workshop Mizuno, established in 1964. Mizuno guitars are all hand-made, in rather limited numbers, and known primarily (if not only) in Japan. Even in Japan, they are not that easy to find. The same applies to the info about this workshop.
Having this occasion and acoustic guitar forum(s) readers in mind, I’d like to emphasize that Mizuno is popular Japanese last name and there are countless Japanese businesses with Mizuno in their title.
This guitar remains in at least "very good for its age" condition. The only conspicuous cosmetic flaws are few small dents and scratches located on its back, small dent located on the corner tip of the headstock. What is visible on the pictures on the near the rear corner of the fingerboard at E6 string side, is either a very light scratch or hair-like crack in the finish. It certainly is not a crack nor a repair mark. The wood remains intact. Back and sides are covered with very thin layer semi-matte finish they appear somewhat cloudy on the pictures. The creamy color of binding is original. It has never been white.
Guitar is equipped with L.R.Baggs Element pickup system.
This guitar plays easy and sounds fantastic. It is relatively light, highly responsive and powerful instrument. It offers very rich & cool tonality, with plenty of overtones, superb note clarity and separation and impressive sustain. With its current ultra-low action, it plays effortlessly. It is a super-find for fingerstyle players who have tried $5000+ guitars available on the market.
As of today, if you wanted to order a brand new guitar made in Japan with similar woods, looks and construction it would cost you at least $3500. If in addition you would like it to have the same sound properties, the price would be at least $4500. It is not that difficult to find out what are the current prices of Japanese made acoustic guitars.
