• The Rane HC6S headphone amplifier brings a number of high-level functions to the table. This includes master stereo inputs you can use to operate the headphone amplifiers included in the unit. You can operate one or all of the amplifiers at one time. This 6-channel headphone amp provides you with the ability to drive both channels on all six amps from a single mono source. The device delivers 500 milliwatts into headsets with impedances between 32 and 600 ohms. These features give you the ability to get crystal clear sound even if you are using headsets that lack internal amplifiers. The unit also performs other tasks which are not necessarily headphone related. There are six individual unbalanced stereo inputs available that can drive any of the individual amplifiers from their separate radio source. You can use internal jumpers to convert an unbalanced input into an input that is mono-balanced. The outputs for all six of the channels are located on the front panel as well as on the rear panel. This allows you to connect the headphones on either side for optimum convenience. Each channel is capable of supporting two pairs of headphones with one pair connected to the front and one pair connected to the rear. The parallel front and rear jacks add flexibility as well as improve the ease of use. You can rack-mount the amplifier while allowing access to any of the output jacks. Monitor mixes and their queuing become extremely easy and allow for extra monitoring or routing without the need of a bay. For demonstration uses, up to 12 headphones may be used simultaneously for extra efficiency. The precise amount of audio power delivered to the headphones depends on the impedance and conditions of the headphone that is being used. It also depends on the number of headphones that are connected. As a general rule, the HC6S will produce audio levels over 120 decibels, which is quite adequate for most users. There are several unique features of the HC6S that take their performance far beyond regular distribution amplifiers. In addition to the main input plugs, this unit provides separate stereo inputs for each amp unit. When a signal is plugged into the individual input, the main stereo signal will automatically disconnect from the amplifier. That allows the other stages to continue either from the master stereo input or from a different input. The amplifier can act as a standard distribution amplifier or as six separate amps, and you can even do a combination of both options. This feature is an excellent choice for audio broadcast locations, language labs, music labs, or video studios.
