Up for sale is an extremely rare Classical Guitar, built in 1963 by well-known and respected Luthier Dieter Hopft. I’ve personally been researching this guitar for many years now to determine any information and facts surrounding this amazing instrument. Recently I discovered this guitar was a Dieter Hopft and I was lucky enough to have Dieter Hopft himself comment on this rare instrument. In his words, “The guitar didn’t have a model name, but yes – it’s a Hopf. Price back then was 198 Deutsche Mark – a very expensive guitar these days!” to then make the comment that “average net income in Germany in 1963 was 203 € or 397 Mark per month. So the guitar was 50% of your monthly net income back then! That’s what we call very expensive.”

When valuing any musical instrument, it’s critical to take into consideration a host of factors including but not limited to maker, model, age, condition, originality, supply/demand, rarity, sound, playability, etc.

This instrument has no alterations, no warping or separation of joints and has all original parts. The sound and tonality of this guitar is amazing and is free of buzzing or tuning issues. This guitar is built with a prized tone wood; in this case a Brazilian rosewood which due to its endangered status and scarcity is no longer used to build guitars. The presence signifies a quality instrument and positively impact the guitar’s value.

Two unique aspects of this guitar include two embellishments that include the word “ARTIST” and the half sunburst at the bottom of the base of the guitar. For the serious collector looking for both the rare and vintage mojo, this guitar has it all.
