About This Listing

1940s SS Stewart Archtop

Hello. Up for sale is a cool 1940s era SS Stewart acoustic archtop guitar.

This guitar is in good condition. It plays and sounds great. The neck was reset and the guitar has low action with the appropriate height of the bridge saddle. The body width is 16" at the lower bout.

This guitar is lightweight and very solid. The neck, body and binding are in good shape. There is only one very slight 2"  hairline crack at one of the F holes. The frets and fingerboard are in good shape with some normal wear on the fingerboard in the lower position.

The guitar has normal finish wear and tear consistent with 70 years or so of  use.  There is wear on the back of the neck along with dings and scratches on the body. At one time there was a monkey stick pickup on there that left some scratches near the bridge area.

The neck is straight without any heel rise.  These guitars have a thick V neck. The width at the nut is 1 3/4" and the scale length is 25 1/4 " .This guitar has low action and plays well since the neck was reset.. The is some finish touchup on the neck  heel but there is no heel crack or damage.  The wheels on the bridge are about 1/8" above the lowest position and the top has not flattened out.

There is a small finish touchup on the face of the peghead near the high "E" tuner. These guitars have a headstock overlay. There is a small hole in the front of the headstock that was filled. There is no crack or damage here.

The tuner buttons are replaced. The original metal buttons were cheap potted metal and half of them disintegrated,. The pickguard is missing but for fun I may try to get one on the. It will be black of course or maybe white.
