OK, so if you have been looking for that Unicorn to put in your studio to give you that signature sound and to have a piece that NO ONE HAS, here it is! First you just never see these for sale and to make it even more rare it's from Studio A at the Record Plant in NYC and was modded by Roy Cicala himself! So if you don't know who Roy is just google his name, he was The Record Plant. OK, for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Roger Mayer RM 57 is it an amazing piece, for drums, rooms and guitars it will blow you away. It has a sound that nothing else has, you can absolute squash the snot out of room mics and still have them be musical to get that Zeppelin sound or back off and get a fantastic brilliant or floating guitar sound. I'm not about to compare it to the Fairchild 670, it sounds different but just as good. The 670 was rare because at the time it was very expensive the RM 57 was not but that is where Roy stepped in. He took this and modded it so it could be used on the stereo buss and be quiet and sound amazing. The mods include a larger power transformer (better noise ratio), the pots were replaced with high end Allen-Bradley potentiometers (a weak link on the original), selected low noise transistors (where needed), and the addition of UTC input and output transformers for balanced input and output. The result is a fantastic sounding piece of history. This has been recapped with high end capacitors in the last two years and it sounds amazing, it can be used in dual mono or linked for stereo and did I mention how amazing this sounds... yea I guess I did.
